42nd Street Photo Reviews Canon EOS Rebel T3i

Canon EOS series competes with Nikon F series as well as the autofocus (AF) SLR systems from Sony, Pentax, Panasonic or Olympus. Canon enjoyed in 2010 a DSLR market share of 44.5%, far ahead of Nikon’s 29.8%, which makes Canon the leading DSLR manufacturers.

In this post, 42nd Street Photo has the pleasure to review and recommend Canon EOS Rebel T3i, known in Europe as EOS 600D.

What makes this camera special in comparison with its little sister T2i? Although it sports the same 18MP CMOS sensor seen in the Rebel T2i (550D), it comes with a 1,040k dot LCD monitor just like the one the 60D has. The 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II is a revised version of its optically stabilized kit lens.

What else is great about T3i?

You can get great results with the expandable ISO 100-6400, (expands to 12800) when you shoot in dim light. Also, the HD experience is very much enhanced. You don’t just shoot videos. You will enjoy a gorgeus Full HD image quality.

T3i permits easy manual control of exposure, focus and Live View features and even allows for in-camera editing.

The enhanced 63-zone metering helps you make the images as you see them, and lets you be creative with the Basic+ function, Multi Aspect Function and Creative Filters. You can shoot by ambiance selection and by lighting or scene type.

You can capture pure action with the 3.7 fps continuous shooting of up to 34 JPEGs or 6 RAWs. The flexibility T3i enables in terms of storage on SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards complements perfectly the compact and lightweight body design. In terms of robustness, T3i has relatively strong construction of a stainless steel frame with polycarbonate body.

T3i is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup, including compact and lightweight EF-S lenses, ranging from ultra-wide angle to super telephoto lenses.
